The abundant flowering of roses is impossible without proper attention. We will show you a brief guide to caring for roses in September. You will learn September For The Rose Care in the RunSun article.

September: Prepare For Winter!

For smooth overwintering of the shrubs from late summer to mid-September, roses must be supplemented with phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium.

What Fertilizer To Apply?

For root dressing, you can use calcium superphosphate (50 grams per bush), and potassium sulfate (15-25 grams).
Depending on the foliage – medicated ingredients: phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulfur, iron, manganese, zinc, copper, boron, molybdenum, nitrogen (urea, nitrate, and ammonia).
Enrich the soil with magnesium – any magnesium preparation (magnesium-potassium – 30-40 g).
Add ash (50-100 g) or bone meal under the bushes.

For feeding roses in September, any compound labeled “autumn” is suitable. When feeding roses in September, it is important to remember that from the second half of August onwards you cannot apply nitrogen fertilizers. If you use a complex preparation, it should contain the least amount of nitrogen.

In the dry autumn months, rose fertilizers are applied only in the form of solutions. On rainy days, you can follow up with dry fertilizer. In autumn, there is still a risk of damage to plants caused by pests and diseases. As a preventive measure, it is recommended to spray the plants with preparations.
From pests – “Pest control”
From diseases – ” Prevention of diseases

Watering Of Plants

In September, watering should be minimal, but sufficient, and one should not forget to water the roses. One can use our latest watering cans. When wetting the soil, water should not fall on the leaves, as this can lead to fungal diseases in case of a sharp drop in temperature at night.

Starting in the second half of September, it is recommended to gradually cut back the lower leaves of the roses to prepare them for winter. Pinching overgrown buds is also recommended. If roses become sick or are damaged by pests during this season, it is best to remove all leaves from under the bush.

In faded bushes, most of the seedboxes should also be removed, leaving only 3-4 pieces on the plant. Roses planted at the end of the season tend to perform better. Therefore, it is considered preferable to plant roses in the fall. In the middle lane in September you can start planting roses with an open root system.
